CH—01 / Listening philosophy

Quiet rooms. Familiar music. Honest comparisons.

Good audio means the recordings you love sounding the way they should, in the room you have. That is the whole philosophy. Specifications matter only as far as you can hear them.

We prefer
A system you keep for a decade over one you replace in a year.
We start
With the room and the listener, then the equipment.
We explain
What each change does, in plain language, as we make it.
We write down
Settings, positions and reasons, so nothing depends on memory.

CH—02 / How we audition gear

Six habits for every comparison.

We hold every product we consider carrying to the same procedure we use with you. If it can’t hold its own under these conditions, it doesn’t make the shelf.

    Level-matched, always

    Louder sounds better to everyone. We match volume before every comparison so you hear differences, not loudness.

  2. 02

    One change at a time

    Swap a single component, then listen again. Otherwise nobody can say what made the difference.

    Music you know

    Your own recordings, at your own volume, for as long as it takes to be sure.

  4. 04

    More than one track

    A short passage can flatter almost anything. We listen across genres, voices and dynamics.

    Time to notice fatigue

    Some systems impress in a minute and tire you in an hour. We leave room for that to show.

    Microphone, then ears

    In-room measurements guide placement. Your ears make the decision.

Things we’ll talk you out of.

A good recommendation sometimes means selling less. These are the lines we hold.

  1. No.01An upgrade you couldn’t hear in a level-matched comparison.
  2. No.02More amplifier power than your loudspeakers and your room can use.
  3. No.03A subwoofer to fix a problem that placement or treatment would solve.
  4. No.04Loudspeakers too large for the room they’re going into.
  5. No.05A bundle put together for margin rather than for your room.
  6. No.06Accessories sold on claims nobody can demonstrate.
